The Foundation’s projects are unique in that they are community based, meaning we work closely and partner with local leaders, governmental and non-governmental organizations, international organizations and others to ensure that the projects the Foundation funds will have the maximum impact on communities.
The Gertler Family Foundation funds projects in the following sectors:
Our healthcare programs address lack of access to basic medical services, malnutrition, facial deformities, malaria, tuberculosis and other endemic diseases, HIV- AIDS and more. We build and manage hospitals and partner with national and international health bodies, including government entities and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO), private companies, and others to help meet the basic and more complex healthcare needs of the population the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Our support of an innovative agricultural project is helping equip Congolese citizens with the tools and skills needed to increase the country's food security and advance the DRC’s agricultural and economic development.
Our education programs focus on child and youth development in a comprehensive manner. We build and repair schools, sponsor housing and education for orphans and vulnerable children, contribute educational material and equipment to primary and secondary schools and universities, provide scholarships, and more. Working together with national and international bodies, NGO, United Nation’s agencies, and others, we are strengthening the delivery of education throughout the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Our small and big infrastructure development programs are helping rebuild the Democratic Republic of the Congo and improving the quality of life in communities throughout the country. The roads, bridges, airports and hospitals we have help repair and build, electrification and water projects we support, and our other infrastructure development programs also create jobs and spur economy growth.
Our support of sports, music and other cultural programs contributes to the well being of Congolese citizens and social development of communities. We also work closely with national and international organizations to comprehensively help combat negative cultural and social issues.
When natural or other disasters strike, we are there to provide first aid and emergency assistance. In times of urgent need, we directly and together with national and international governmental bodies and NGO and emergency management organizations provide shelter, clothing, food and other assistance to suffering and displaced populations.
